Dumbbell Flys: Targeting the Chest with Isolation

dumbbell flys

Dumbbell flys are a classic chest exercise that focuses on the pectorals, giving you that wide, sculpted chest. Unlike pressing exercises, flys isolate the chest by keeping your arms in a fixed position while the elbows remain slightly bent. This movement helps stretch and contract the chest for maximum activation.

How to Perform Dumbbell Flys:

  1. Set Up:
    • Lie flat on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand.
    • Hold the dumbbells directly above your chest with your arms extended, palms facing each other.
  2. Lower the Dumbbells:
    • Slowly lower the dumbbells outward, keeping a slight bend in your elbows.
    • Stretch your chest as far as comfortable while maintaining control.
  3. Return to Starting Position:
    • Reverse the motion, squeezing your chest as you bring the dumbbells back together over your chest.
  4. Tip:
    • Focus on the stretch and contraction of your chest, not just lifting the weight.
